What are Parallel Papers and what is their purpose?
Parallel Papers, together with Keynotes, form the basis of the three days of the Annual Meeting (which we call conference) program. The purpose of the Parallel Papers is to offer a platform to present, explore and share ideas, conceptual work and practice experience.  Papers presented may be fully developed or still in progress, connected to the theme of the Annual Meeting. That is Civilizations and their discontents What does that mean for the psychoanalytic study of and work with organizations?”

The Parallel Paper Selection process is highly competitive and aims to offer different perspectives of psychoanalytical, psycho-social, systems-psychodynamic and socio-analytic approaches to groups and organizations.

What we address with the Parallel Papers Symposium
Some of the issues that we expect to be addressed by the presenters of parallel papers include those below, although this is not an exclusive list:

  • What are the conscious and unconscious dynamics, connections and tensions between discontents and civilizations in which we are involved and are part of as members of groups and organizations?
  • How can we live with multiple civilizations within groups and organizations without polarization?
  • How are boundaries managed, when people from conflicting civilizations have to work together in national and international organizations?
  • What types of anxieties underlie the defenses that individuals, groups and systems develop, such as sticking solely to one’s own national identification?
  • How are leadership and organizations affected in their structures and processes?
  • Are our approaches to leadership still valid and appropriate today in a world characterized by multiple civilizations and many discontents?
  • How can discontent and clashes among civilizations be contained and worked through?
  • How can our psychoanalytical conceptual frameworks, methods and tools support leaders and other clients to engage assuredly in groups and organizations in the future?

Who will present papers?
Papers will be presented by a range of contributors, including the following:
ISPSO members and non-members with an interest in the psychoanalytic study of organizations, practitioners (consultants and leaders), academics (teachers and researchers), clinicians, others interested in professional development from a psychoanalytic and systems thinking perspective representing a large range of countries worldwide.
