Dear potential participants,

A conference in South Africa is a bit different from what we have been accustomed to in the past.
Therefore, we would like to offer some additional advice before you book.

Onsite, live-streamed, but not hybrid - what does that mean?
The conference will be taking place as a residential conference at 26th Degrees South Hotel close to Johannesburg.
Most of the PDWs take place there - two are online only.
We will stream the papers and the keynotes so that you can follow them live online. But we will not create an active interaction between the people in the room and the people at the screen. However we will aim to create an online 'group' experience for those online, if we have enough online participants.

This set-up is due to the fact that electricity and internet connections are far from being stable.
We hope you will enjoy the experience!

Travelling with partner/spouse
The conference venue is located in the middle of a nature reserve. You cannot order taxis or Ubers from there. So if you bring your partner/spouse, they are "confined" with us. The conference venue offers a range of interesting activities which they can book onsite with the venue (not with us, please). Please check the website of the venue https://26dsouth.co.za/activities/
Therefore we would suggest that you travel with your spouse either before or after the conference.

Travel arrangements:
We have booked the conference venue, and when registering with us you have to indicate how many days you require accommodation and which extra program activities you would like to participate (Excursion Day, Gala Dinner). You book your conference-period accomodation together with your event registration using our registration form.

They are tested, well known, and offer secure and punctual rides. Please do not take a cab at the airport or book any other transport from the airport. 
You may want to find fellow travellers to share a taxi, but please be so kind to arrange that yourself, we do not have the capacity for organising that for you.

If you want to come for the whole week, we advise you arrive on Sunday. You also should not miss the Excursion day on Wednesday, that will be something special. The official closing of the conference is Sunday 3pm. This might give you time to leave then for an evening flight or you may want to stay until the next morning. This is your choice of course. The special rates for accommodation are only valid until Monday morning (a Sunday night, 2nd July, booking). From there on, you would have to book your stay with the venue.
