The walls within: working with defenses against otherness

Books and their Civilizing Contents

Members Day Session: July 4th
Hosted by Aaron Nurick
12:00 – 13:00 EEST

The purpose of this aspect of the Annual Meeting program is to provide conceptual and theoretical context and depth to our thinking and reflection about paper presentations connected to the overall theme of the AM: Civilizations and Their Discontents. There will be a special session on books during Members Day, and we will interweave these main threads of ideas from important works into the fabric of our discussions and reflections.

As you prepare for the AM, I invite you to think of a book that has had a significant impact on your thinking and work. It could be a book in our field or even a novel, biography, or other influential volume. If possible, please bring a copy of the book with you to the Annual Meeting or have it with you online.

We will set up a designated space in the meeting venue where AM participants can gather to share ideas related to books and enjoy conversations about the books with their colleagues. This activity will be separate from the publishers’ book sales area.
