I'm interested in processes of breakdown and recovery: individual, organizational, and social. I began my career exploring these subjects in historical contexts; over the last decade or so I have turned my attention to the present. I received my Ph.D. in History from Stanford and my clinical training from the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, with additional training through the Melanie Klein Trust. I've also been affiliated with the School of Social Science of the Institute for Advanced Study; the Dewitt Wallace Institute of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College; and the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at NYU, where I have been on the faculty since 2007. I have a private clinical/consulting practice in Greenwich Village.
