Strategy Development and Systems Psychodynamic Theory - Harold Bridgers ideas of tuning in and working-through examined
This paper explores Harold Bridgers ideas on the stages of the change process and the application of these ideas to the development of organization-wide strategy. The author highlights the importance of Bridgers initial stages, in particular tuning-in, to stimulating client leadership and, therefore, to satisfactory outcomes from strategy development exercises. Within strategy development, tuning-in involves resolution of a complex gap between the presenting and the actual central purposes of the strategy exercise. The paper offers some preliminary thoughts on how this comes about, or how it can be brought about, illustrated and explored further in case studies drawn from the authors experience.
